A Walk On The Wild Side At Paignton Zoo

A visit to a zoo, aquarium or animal attraction in Devon is a great idea. They are a great day out for all ages and in all weathers.

We have many attractions that will appeal to wildlife lovers. From the big ones like the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth and Paignton Zoo to the smallest, they all excel at educating and entertaining about native or exotic animals or marine life.

Paignton Zoo has a collection of approximately 2,000 animals representing nearly 300 species. TripAdvisor voted it the third best zoo in the UK based on visitor feedback

The National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth is the largest aquarium in the UK. As well as being home to many international species, it also explores Devon’s local waters, divided into four main areas: Plymouth Sound, British Shores, Atlantic Ocean and Blue Planet.

Paignton Zoo opened in 1923, one of the first combined zoological and botanic gardens in Britain and the first to be opened with an educational mission. On holiday in Devon we recently visited Exmoor Zoo which was not far from where we were in Croyde. I love zoos, they are always a great day out and Archie is fascinated by the animals and keeps exclaiming “Oh wow!” at every step

Best Things To Do In Devon In Spring 2022

Exmoor Zoo is by far the smallest zoo I have ever visited but it still has lots of great animals and the fact that it is small worked in our favor as we were able to attend a number of lectures and various session sessions. . animals. We stopped for a chat about lemurs, caught a fed wallaby (which was great, read more about it) and then on to Spider Phobia – a talk/video about spiders and a chance to own one!

Little A fell asleep on the way and didn’t even stop when we transferred him from the car to the stroller, so he took a short nap first, but we easily got back to the animals he missed because the houses are pretty close together. The weather was not great, it was raining but not cold, but actually I think these days are the best to visit nature parks because the animals are active and not sleeping under the hot sun.

Fortunately, this was also the case for us and we were able to see many animals up close. Cheetahs roamed the pen waiting for dinner and the lemurs were particularly playful, plus we witnessed some ferrets (and their cubs!) tunneling from pen to pen above our heads. I think our favorite part was feeding the kangaroos! Zookeepers open their enclosures for an hour, allowing visitors to get up close and personal with these beautiful creatures.

We really had a great time regardless of the weather and it was great to see so many animals so interactive. The size of the zoo does not matter because there are so many things that I have never seen before in other nature parks. I highly recommend feeding and petting the kangaroos, meeting the fur and zoo babies in the grounds and feeding the penguins!
