Three Cheshire secondary schools and two primary schools have been named among the best in the North West by Parent Power, The Sunday Times School Guide 2022.

Evelyn Street Primary School in Warrington was ranked third in the North West and 17th overall in the prestigious list.

The Five Cheshire Schools Named Best In North West In Sunday Times List

Three of the 10 highest paying schools are in Cheshire, with The King’s School, Chester; Queen’s School, Chester; and The Grange, Northwich, took fourth, fifth and sixth places.

Also featured is Lower Peover Primary School, Knutsford, which was ranked eighth best of all primary schools in the area.

The 29th edition of Parent Power recognizes the best performing schools in the UK, ranked by exam results from 2017 to 2019.

The list of the best state secondary schools in the region is dominated by Altrincham, which has four of the top 10 places in the North West in the city, including the best school in the region, Altrincham Grammar School for Girls.

An astonishing 91.3 per cent of pupils at Altrincham A School achieved B or above, nine per cent more than the best state school in the North West, The Blue Coat in Liverpool.

The school also boasts the highest percentage of students achieving GCSEs in year 7 and above, with 83.6 per cent.

Close behind its neighbors is Altrincham Grammar School for Boys, ranked third in the North West and 28th nationally. In other parts of the city, Loreto and St. Ambrose College.

Ranking in secondary school league tables by the average proportion of pupils in the previous three years who achieved grades A* to B at A-level and the average proportion of pupils who achieved grades 9-7 or A* and A in GCSE attainment is determined. .

This edition of The Sunday Times Schools Guide, which includes around 1,700 schools, only includes schools that have published their results in those years or have been published in The Sunday Times.

Alastair McCall, editor of Parent Power, said: “The need for clarity on school exam performance has never been greater after two years of teacher evaluation, which for understandable reasons has seen a dramatic increase in top grades.

“We felt it was important to look back at the latest sets of CPA results from 2019, 2018 and 2017 to get the most accurate and up-to-date view of the school’s academic performance.

“At a time when some schools are struggling to prove claims of academic ability based on the 2021 and 2020 results, we believe that these guidelines – and all the other information provided in the Parent Guide – are a more reliable guide for parents to academic performance in schools today.”
