The Best Coffee In Mclaren Vale & The Fleurieu Peninsula 2022
Find accommodation in McLaren Vale and stay for the weekend, taking time to explore, experience and eat the area. Maxwell Wines is located in the foothills of the McLaren Vale, nestled between the sea to the west and the Lofty Ranges to the east. Maxwell’s Restaurant offers a wide range of dishes, with very different main courses but an equally delicious dining experience.
The first is an opportunity to enjoy casual dining in a recently closed area overlooking the winery. A floor-to-ceiling interior window between the deck and the wine room allows guests to watch the winemaking process while dining, adding a sense of atmosphere to the event. The menu focuses heavily on sharing dishes and plates, showcasing the best produce from the McLaren Vale and the Fleurieu Peninsula.
The second option allows guests to enjoy a formal tasting of four or six courses led by chef Fabian Lehmann. In keeping with the restaurant’s focus, this unique culinary experience, which takes place in Maxwell’s dining room, is designed to showcase the best local produce in a fine dining environment.
German-born chef Fabian Lehmann joined Maxell three years ago, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team, having spent most of his professional life cooking in fine dining restaurants and Michelin star in Europe.

Maxwell also engaged architect Anatoly Patrick and interior designer Claire Kneebone to refurbish and update the dining room at the start of the year, and the result is amazing.
The new dining room is filled with natural light pouring in from large, full-length windows. There is a real feeling of natural warmth and luxury due to the beautiful limestone walls and natural wood and leather tones used throughout. The chef’s table in the center of the dining room is made of marble, limestone and tiles, which adds to the high-end sound but maintains the warmth of the room.
Maxwell’s food philosophy focuses on seasonal and local produce – whatever they can grow, they use. They have an extensive kitchen and vegetable garden, and anything they can’t grow themselves they get from local suppliers.
Mushrooms are always on the menu at Maxwell’s, thanks to a limestone cave excavated in the hillside behind the winery in 1916. It has always been used for special private events, but now it serves both purposes.
Maxwell Restaurant Review, Fleurieu Best Restaurants
Over the past few years, Maxwell’s has worked hard to build a kitchen team and front of house staff, including the addition of Pastry Chef Jason Brown. Three important things; A talented team, a focus on fresh and local produce and a fantastic location culminated in winning this year’s ‘Best Restaurant’ Wine Tour Award.
The award recognized by Fabian and managing director Jeremy Maxwell is one “three years in the making”. said Fabian
“It’s nice to get recognition from the team. It’s amazing to receive the award, it motivates us to try harder”
The Maxwell restaurant team is currently hard at work on menu concepts for Tasting Australia, which will be held in ‘Mad March’ next year. Definitely Maxwell’s
