We run our second degree in English and French law together with the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. This new admissions program brings together the expertise of two leading law schools, providing you with an outstanding knowledge of the French and English legal systems and a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the rule of bilingual culture.

Education In France

Your first two years in London will cover the basics of English legal education – the areas of contract law, property law, civil law, tort law, equity and trust, criminal law, public law and EU law. Your third and fourth years in Paris will cover French law, comparative law, international law and European law. After graduation, you will be qualified to practice law in France, England and Wales.

If you want to live in London after your first or second year, you have the flexibility to switch to our traditional LLB Law and complete your degree at Queen Mary.

For the second year in a row, the Master’s Degree in English and French Law is ranked first in France 2020 in the Universal Ranking of the best Bachelors, Masters and Grandes Écoles.

This dual qualification meets the qualification requirement for admission to the legal profession in England, Wales and France. The LLB is a legal qualification awarded by both branches of the legal profession in England and Wales and reasonable exemptions from professional examination requirements are permitted.

At the beginning of the program, you will take a French language test. French courses are mandatory if you are not at the required level and without exception. The third and fourth years are taught in French, with the exception of law and legal ethics.

The English and French constitutions are very competitive subjects; we receive many requests for small spaces. Applications are accepted until January 15, late applications will not be considered.

All applications will be reviewed in a timely manner and candidates will be selected for an interview. We evaluate applicants based on a number of criteria and make decisions based on the entire application. We pay special attention to the candidate’s academic profile, the quality of the personal statement and academic references. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview at Queen Mary University of London. The interview is a 15-minute group interview aimed at assessing your motivation, level of knowledge and language skills, conducted in English and French.
