Dr. Smolyar is a board-certified cataract and refractive surgeon with over 25 years of experience. He received his medical degree from Kursk State Medical University in the former Soviet Union. He completed a fellowship in ophthalmology at the University of Louisville and a fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology at Michigan State University. Before coming to the United States, he completed another ophthalmology residency at Israel’s Ben Gurion University.

Dr. Smolyar specializes in cataract surgery and lens replacement, as well as LASIK and laser vision correction, refractive surgery (PRK) and photodynamic therapy (PTK) surgery. He also has considerable experience in cosmetic and reconstructive eyelid surgery. Dr. Smolyar is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He was in private practice in Louisville, Kentucky for many years and was a clinical associate professor of ophthalmology at the University of Louisville.

Christopher Butcher, O.d.

As of 2018, he lives in Fort Myers with his wife and dogs. They raised three children together. In his free time, Dr. Smolyar enjoys swimming, diving, kayaking and fishing. He considers it one of his passions to spend time providing free surgical eye care services in underprivileged countries.

Dr. Palmon is a certified, university-educated specialist in cataract, refraction and keratology. He earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Georgetown University, magna cum laude, and then received his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, followed by a residency at the Willis Eye Institute at Thomas Jefferson University. His fellowship in corneal and refractive surgery was completed at the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Palmone specializes in cataract surgery and lens replacement, as well as LASIK, Epi-LASEK and laser vision correction using implantable lenses. He ensures his patients use the most advanced treatments available, such as corneal cross-linking and membrane endodermal keratoplasty (DMEK) corneal transplants. Dr. Palmon also offers glaucoma treatment and surgery.

Dr. Palmon is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and Board Certified in Refractive Surgery by the American Board of Ophthalmological Surgery. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Medical Association, the American Society of Refractive and Cataract Surgery, and the International Society of Refractive Surgery. He is the author of a number of scientific articles in ophthalmology journals and a frequent speaker at ophthalmology symposia.

Among the current and past membership of Dr. Marha’s memberships include Students of Optometry Serving Humanity, Trinidad and Tobago Society of Optometrists, Florida Surgical Eye Expedition, American Optometric Society, Florida Optometric Society, and Southwest Florida Optometric Society.

He served as president of the Southwest Florida Opometric Association for over four years and participated in several ophthalmic tours to Trinidad, Guatemala and El Salvador.

Born in Trinidad, he graduated from high school and began university in Toronto, completing his final years of undergraduate and professional education at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He was director of optometry for 14 years at Eye Centers of Florida, formerly a partner at Southwest Eye Care Centers of Florida, now part of Vision Centers.

Dr. Marhu has lived in Fort Myers since 1991. He and his wife, Tricia, are the proud parents of two grown children, Aaron and Britney. His greatest joy is his family, followed by hiking, mountain climbing, cycling, fishing and football.

Dr. Avril is a board certified optometrist who provides a variety of primary care services to patients. She knew she wanted to practice optometry when she was eight years old while undergoing treatment for eye problems. He earned a bachelor’s degree and magnet honors at St. from Petersburg Junior College and the University of South Florida. He completed his doctorate in optometry at the University of Missouri School of Optometry and received the First Class Graduate Award and the Award for Excellence in Contact Lenses. Dr. Avril was a professor of neurology and clinical research there and completed her internship at St. Louis and circled Barnes Hospital.

Dr. Avril is a member of the American Optometric Association, Southern Board of Optometrists, Florida Optometric Association and Southwest Florida Optometric Association.

He completed his bachelor’s degree at Florida Southern College, then received his doctorate in optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis. He practiced at Winter Haven Eye Clinic in Winter Haven, Florida and in St. Luke Eye Institute in Tarpon Springs, Florida.

Dr. Orr is a member of the American Optometric Association, Florida Optometric Association, Southwest Florida Optometric Association, Society of Contact Lens Optometrists and the Kiwanis Club. He has dedicated his time to Volunteer Optometry Services for Humanity, an organization that facilitates the provision and sustainability of vision care around the world for people who cannot afford or have access to such care. Traveled to Belize, Santo Domingo, Costa Rica, Haiti and Panama. Dr. Orr serves on several local boards, including the Humane Society of Lee County, the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter of the Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s Association of Southwest Florida.
